  Walter Edwin Alessandroni (1914-1966) — also known as Walter E. Alessandroni — of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pa. Lawyer; served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II; U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, 1959-61; Pennsylvania state attorney general, 1963-66; delegate to Republican National Convention from Pennsylvania, 1964. Italian ancestry. Member, American Bar Association; American Judicature Society; American Legion. As a candidate for Lieutenant Governor, was flying to a planned campaign speech in a twin-engine Aztec plane, in rainy and snowy weather, when the plane crashed near Connellsville, Fayette County, Pa., May 8, 1966 (age 51 years, 132 days). Burial location unknown.

Bookkeeper and timekeeper for the Reading Railroad; U.S. Representative from Pennsylvania 8th District, 1861-67. Italian ancestry. Member, Freemasons; Knights Templar. Died in Reading, Berks County, Pa., June 20, 1913 (age 88 years, 212 days). Interment at Charles Evans Cemetery, Reading, Pa.

Born in Brooklyn, Kings County, N.Y., June 17, 1923. Republican. Catholic priest; bishop of Pittsburgh, 1983-88; archbishop of Philadelphia, 1988-2003; cardinal from 1991; offered prayer, Republican National Convention, 2000 ; accused in 2003-04 of protecting priests who were suspected of sexually abusing children; later, it was found that he had ordered a subordinate to destroy a list of 35 abusive priests, and that he had punished a priest who had raised concerns about possible abuse. Catholic. Italian ancestry. Died in Wynnewood, Montgomery County, Pa., January 31, 2012 (age 88 years, 228 days). Entombed at Cathedral Basilica of Sts. Peter and Paul, Philadelphia, Pa.

Catholic priest; naturalized U.S. citizen; concealed his clerical background from Congressmen who recommended him for a consular appointment; U.S. Consul in Santos, 1900-01; removed as consul for neglect of duty and possible embezzlement; went to Italy and misrepresented himself as U.S. Consul to Persia; arrested by Italian authorities on charges of betraying a young woman, and imprisoned there. The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.
