  Llewelyn Sherman Adams (1899-1986) — also known as Sherman Adams; "The Abominable No Man"; "The Great Stone Face" — of Lincoln, Grafton County, N.H. Born in East Dover, Dover, Windham County, Vt., January 8, 1899. Republican. Served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War I; lumberman; member of New Hampshire state house of representatives, 1941-44; Speaker of the New Hampshire State House of Representatives, 1943-44; delegate to Republican National Convention from New Hampshire, 1944, 1952; speaker, 1952, 1956; U.S. Representative from New Hampshire 2nd District, 1945-47; delegate to New Hampshire state constitutional convention from Lincoln, 1948; Governor of New Hampshire, 1949-53; defeated, 1946; assistant to President Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1953-58; forced to resign in 1958 following disclosure that he had accepted gifts, including a vicuna coat, from a Boston businessman seeking preferred treatment from federal agencies. Episcopalian. Member, Sons of the American Revolution; Freemasons; Shriners; Sigma Alpha Epsilon; American Legion; Forty and Eight; Grange; Elks; Society of Colonial Wars; Foresters. Died in Hanover, Grafton County, N.H., October 27, 1986 (age 87 years, 292 days). Interment at Riverside Cemetery, Lincoln, N.H.

  John Linebaugh Knuppel (1923-1986) — also known as John L. Knuppel — of Petersburg, Menard County, Ill. Born in Easton, Mason County, Ill., August 15, 1923. Democrat. Served in the U.S. Army during World War II; delegate to Illinois state constitutional convention, 1969-70; member of Illinois state senate, 1971-81 (42nd District 1971-73, 48th District 1973-81); candidate for U.S. Representative from Illinois 18th District, 1980. Lutheran. German ancestry. Member, Veterans of Foreign Wars; American Legion. Jailed for contempt of court for refusing to wear a tie. Died, of heart disease, in a hospital at Springfield, Sangamon County, Ill., November 15, 1986 (age 63 years, 92 days). Interment somewhere in Havana, Ill.
  Philip C. Bellfy (b. 1946) — also known as Phil Bellfy — of Sault Ste. Marie, Chippewa County, Mich. Born, in a hospital at Detroit, Wayne County, Mich., April 7, 1946. College teacher; Human Rights candidate for Michigan State University board of trustees, 1976; Human Rights candidate for Presidential Elector for Michigan, 1976; after refusing to remove his hat, was arrested for trespassing in Michigan state capitol building, 1977; Independent candidate for U.S. Representative from Michigan 11th District, 1986; Workers League candidate for Presidential Elector for Michigan, 1988. Chippewa Indian ancestry. Still living as of 2004.
  Martin G. Barnes (born c.1949) — also known as Marty Barnes — of Paterson, Passaic County, N.J. Born about 1949. Republican. Mayor of Paterson, N.J., 1997-2002; defeated, 2002. African ancestry. Indicted in federal court in 2002 on 40 counts of bribery and other offenses, over his solicitation and acceptance of more than $200,000 in gratuities from city contractors, including home improvements, designer suits, and paid female companions; pleaded guilty to two counts, including tax evasion, and sentenced in 2003 to 37 months in prison. Still living as of 2003.
  Barbara A. Bullock (born c.1939) — also known as Barbara Bullock — of Washington, D.C. Born about 1939. Democrat. Delegate to Democratic National Convention from District of Columbia, 1996, 2000. Female. President of the Washington Teachers Union, 1994-2002; pleaded guilty in 2003 to federal charges of embezzlement from a labor union, over her use of a union credit card to purchase costly costly luxury items including jewelry, furs and clothing; she and two co-conspirators also wrote union checks to themselves and to intermediaries who shared the proceeds, amounting to millions of dollars. Her chauffeur pleaded guilty to money laundering on her behalf. Sentenced to nine years in prison; the sentence was later reduced to six and a half years. Still living as of 2007.

  Sheila Ann Dixon (b. 1953) — also known as Sheila Dixon; Sheila Dixon-Smith — of Baltimore, Md. Born in Baltimore, Md., December 27, 1953. Democrat. Delegate to Democratic National Convention from Maryland, 1988, 2004, 2008 (member, Credentials Committee); mayor of Baltimore, Md., 2007-10; resigned 2010. Female. African Methodist Episcopal. African ancestry. Indicted in January 2009, on perjury theft, and misconduct charges, over secretly accepting more than $20,000 worth of gifts from developers doing business with the city, and for using gift cards intended for needy families to buy furs and other expensive items for herself; the charges were dismissed in May, but she was reindicted in July; tried in fall 2009; convicted on one count of embezzlement, and acquitted on other charges; pleaded guilty to perjury, and resigned as mayor, as part of a plea agreement. Still living as of 2010.

  Jesse Louis Jackson Jr. (b. 1965) — also known as Jesse L. Jackson, Jr. — of Chicago, Cook County, Ill. Born in Greenville, Greenville County, S.C., March 11, 1965. Democrat. Delegate to Democratic National Convention from Illinois, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008; speaker, 1988; U.S. Representative from Illinois 2nd District, 1995-2012; resigned 2012; investigated by federal prosecutors in 2012 over misuse of campaign funds, amounting to about $750,000 spent on personal items, such as cashmere capes and a fedora; in February 2013, following his resignation from Congress, he his wife pleaded guilty; he was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison; released in 2015. Baptist. African ancestry. Member, Omega Psi Phi. Still living as of 2021.

  Duncan Duane Hunter (b. 1976) — also known as Duncan D. Hunter — of Lakeside, San Diego County, Calif.; Alpine, San Diego County, Calif. Born in San Diego, San Diego County, Calif., December 7, 1976. Republican. Served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq; real estate developer; U.S. Representative from California, 2009-20 (52nd District 2009-13, 50th District 2013-20); resigned 2020; in 2016, he was investigated over his misuse of some $250,000 in campaign funds for personal expenses, including family travel, overseas hotel stays, and luxury clothing items; he also spent campaign funds on extramarital affairs with five women, including lobbyists and congressional staffers; in August 2018, he and his wife were indicted in federal court; both eventually pleaded guilty; he was sentenced to 11 months in prison; in December 2020, before he was scheduled to report for incarceration, he was pardoned by President Donald Trump. Still living as of 2020.

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 338,260 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.
