Died in St. Johnsbury, Caledonia County, Vt., February 1, 1793 (age 51 years, 60 days). Interment at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, St. Johnsbury, Vt.
  Relatives: Son of Josiah Arnold and Amy (Phillips) Arnold; married to Molly Burr, Alice Crawford and Cynthia Hastings; father of Lemuel Hastings Arnold; grandfather of Noah Davis; second great-grandfather of Theodore Francis Green.

Died in Smithfield, Providence County, R.I., July 19, 1855 (age 50 years, 286 days). Interment at Slatersville Cemetery, Slatersville, North Smithfield, R.I.
  Relatives: Son of Otis Bartlett and Wait (Buffum) Bartlett; married to Elizabeth Slater.

  Benjamin Earl Bowen (1801-1878) — also known as Benjamin E. Bowen — of Holland Patent, Oneida County, N.Y.; Mexico, Oswego County, N.Y. Born in Coventry, Kent County, R.I., January 15, 1801. Republican. Physician; surgeon; postmaster; member of New York state assembly from Oswego County 3rd District, 1862; delegate to Republican National Convention from New York, 1868. Died in Mexico, Oswego County, N.Y., March 12, 1878 (age 77 years, 56 days). Interment at Mexico Village Cemetery, Mexico, N.Y.
  Relatives: Son of Stephen Bowen and Rebecca (Hill) Bowen; married, May 14, 1829, to Julia Haskin; third cousin twice removed of Costello Lippitt and Clayton Harvey Deming; fourth cousin once removed of Andrew Clark Lippitt, Henry Lippitt and Sabin L. Sayles.

Physician; lawyer; member of Rhode Island state house of representatives, 1764-65; Speaker of the Rhode Island State House of Representatives, 1798-1802; Speaker of the Rhode Island House of Deputies, 1764-65, 1766-67, 1780, 1780-86, 1787-88, 1789-90, 1791-93; Deputy Governor of Rhode Island, 1775-78; U.S. Senator from Rhode Island, 1793-97. Slaveowner. Died in Bristol, Bristol County, R.I., July 6, 1808 (age 78 years, 245 days). Original interment at Bristol Town Common, Bristol, R.I.; reinterment at Juniper Hill Cemetery, Bristol, R.I.

Lucius F. C. Garvin Lucius Fayette Clark Garvin (1841-1922) — also known as Lucius F. C. Garvin — of Lonsdale, Cumberland, Providence County, R.I. Born in Knoxville, Knox County, Tenn., November 13, 1841. Democrat. Served in the Union Army during the Civil War; physician; member of Rhode Island state house of representatives, 1883-85; candidate for U.S. Representative from Rhode Island 2nd District, 1894, 1896, 1898, 1900; Governor of Rhode Island, 1903-05. Died October 2, 1922 (age 80 years, 323 days). Interment at Swan Point Cemetery, Providence, R.I.
  Relatives: Son of James Garvin and Sarah Ann (Gunn) Garvin; married, December 23, 1869, to Lucy Waterman Southmayd.

  Henry Marchmore Shaw (1819-1864) — also known as Henry M. Shaw — of Indiantown (now Shawboro), Currituck County, N.C. Born in Newport, Newport County, R.I., November 20, 1819. Democrat. Physician; U.S. Representative from North Carolina 1st District, 1853-55, 1857-59; colonel in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Scotch-Irish ancestry. Slaveowner. While assembling with other Confederate troops for an expedition, he was shot and killed, near New Bern, Craven County, N.C., February 1, 1864 (age 44 years, 73 days). Interment at Shawboro Cemetery, Shawboro, N.C.

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.  
  The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
