  David Dickson (d. 1836) — of Jackson, Hinds County, Miss. Born in Georgia. Physician; delegate to Mississippi state constitutional convention, 1817, 1832; member of Mississippi state senate, 1820-21; Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi, 1821; postmaster at Jackson, Miss., 1822-23; secretary of state of Mississippi, 1835; U.S. Representative from Mississippi at-large, 1835-36; died in office 1836. Slaveowner. Died in Hot Springs, Garland County, Ark., July 31, 1836. Cenotaph at Congressional Cemetery, Washington, D.C.

  John Calvin Fleming Jr. (b. 1951) — also known as John Fleming — of Minden, Webster Parish, La. Born in Meridian, Lauderdale County, Miss., July 5, 1951. Republican. Physician; U.S. Representative from Louisiana 4th District, 2009-17; candidate for U.S. Senator from Louisiana, 2016; Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development, 2019-. Member, Sons of the American Revolution; Phi Delta Theta. Still living as of 2019.

  William McKendree Gwin (1805-1885) — also known as W. M. Gwin — of Mississippi; San Francisco, Calif. Born near Gallatin, Sumner County, Tenn., October 9, 1805. Democrat. Physician; U.S. Representative from Mississippi at-large, 1841-43; went to California for the 1849 Gold Rush; delegate to California state constitutional convention, 1849; U.S. Senator from California, 1850-55, 1857-61. Engaged in a duel with J. W. McCorkle, June 1, 1853; there were no injuries; twice arrested for alleged disloyalty during the Civil War. Slaveowner. Died in New York, New York County, N.Y., September 3, 1885 (age 79 years, 329 days). Entombed at Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland, Calif.

  James C. Kellogg (1859-1916) — of New Orleans, Orleans Parish, La. Born in Woodville, Wilkinson County, Miss., 1859. Physician; U.S. Consul in Stettin, 1890-93; Barranquilla, 1905; Colón, 1905-14. Died November 18, 1916 (age about 57 years). Burial location unknown.
  William Whitney Kitchen (1875-1912) — of Buffalo, Erie County, N.Y.; Gulfport, Harrison County, Miss. Born in Toronto, Ontario, April 6, 1875. Naturalized U.S. citizen; physician; U.S. Consul in Tenerife, 1911-12, died in office 1912. While suffering from chronic heart disease, he died from a self-inflicted gunshot, in Tenerife (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), Canary Islands, October 16, 1912 (age 37 years, 193 days). Interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Buffalo, N.Y.
  Relatives: Son of James Nelson Kitchen and Anne Jean (Milne) Kitchen; married 1905 to Mabel Clare Money (daughter of Hernando De Soto Money).

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.  
  The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
