  Walter Douglas Cavers (1888-1955) — also known as Walter D. Cavers — of White Lake town, Langlade County, Wis. Born in Allamakee County, Iowa, October 31, 1888. Republican. Accountant for lumber company; candidate for Wisconsin state senate 30th District, 1936; member of Wisconsin state assembly from Langlade County, 1951-54; defeated, 1954. Scottish ancestry. Died in Antigo, Langlade County, Wis., December 7, 1955 (age 67 years, 37 days). Burial location unknown.

  John Flanigan Deadman (1868-1932) — also known as John F. Deadman — of Sault Ste. Marie, Chippewa County, Mich. Born in London, Ontario, November 26, 1868. Democrat. Veterinarian; lost a leg in a hunting accident; lost an eye in another accident; candidate for mayor of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., 1915; in 1928, he famously saved several lives when he brought needed serum and medical supplies by dogsled, through a heavy winter storm, to snowbound Detour, Mich. Scottish ancestry. Member, Knights of Pythias; Elks; Odd Fellows; Maccabees; Modern Woodmen of America. Died in a hospital at Madison, Dane County, Wis., April 27, 1932 (age 63 years, 153 days). Interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Alpena, Mich.

Farmer; member of Minnesota state house of representatives District 9, 1899-1902. Scottish ancestry. Died in Cascade County, Mont., February 22, 1945 (age 90 years, 290 days). Interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Glenville, Minn.
  Relatives: Son of John M. Galt and Jennette (Wylie) Galt; married to Emmaretta Robinson; father of Errol Fay Galt; grandfather of Jack E. Galt (who married Louise Replogle Rankin); great-grandfather of Errol Thomas Galt (who married Sharrie Kay Rogan); second great-grandfather of Errol Wylie Galt.

  Alexander Mitchell (1817-1887) — of Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wis. Born in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, October 17, 1817. Democrat. Banker; president, Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway, 1864-87; U.S. Representative from Wisconsin, 1871-75 (1st District 1871-73, 4th District 1873-75); defeated, 1868; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Wisconsin, 1876 (member, Resolutions Committee). Scottish ancestry. Died in New York, New York County, N.Y., April 19, 1887 (age 69 years, 184 days). Interment at Forest Home Cemetery, Milwaukee, Wis.

Died in Day County, S.Dak., January 24, 1937 (age 66 years, 209 days). Interment at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Adaville, Iowa.

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.  
  The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
