Telegraph operator; railway baggage agent; member of Idaho state house of representatives, 1897; mayor of Caldwell, Idaho, 1897-98; defeated, 1898. Died December 7, 1948 (age 83 years, 345 days). Burial location unknown.
  Relatives: Son of Elanson McCarty Alley and Louisa Ann Elizabeth (Flint) Alley; married, January 14, 1886, to Mary ETta Baker; married to Lula Casford and Mary Lucy Wells.
Ern G. Eagleson Ernest George Eagleson (1864-1956) — also known as Ern G. Eagleson — of Boise, Ada County, Idaho. Born in Cadiz, Harrison County, Ohio, January 13, 1864. Railroad and mining engineer; City Engineer of Boise, 1893-97, 1899-1901, 1911-12; U.S. Surveyor-General for Idaho, 1902-08; mayor of Boise, Idaho, 1919-21, 1925-27; defeated, 1921, 1927, 1929. Presbyterian. Member, American Society of Civil Engineers; Freemasons; Scottish Rite Masons; Shriners; Woodmen of the World. Died, in a nursing home at Boise, Ada County, Idaho, August 17, 1956 (age 92 years, 217 days). Interment at Morris Hill Cemetery, Boise, Idaho.
  Relatives: Son of Andrew Hervey Eagleson and Martha A. (Kerr) Eagleson; married, May 6, 1907, to Viola Scully.

  Jesse Jackson Herrell (1884-1955) — also known as Jesse J. Herrell; Jess Herrell — of Nampa, Canyon County, Idaho. Born in Butler, Bates County, Mo., December 24, 1884. Railroad switchman; candidate for mayor of Nampa, Idaho, 1945, 1947. Died, from coronary occlusion, in Nampa, Canyon County, Idaho, June 21, 1955 (age 70 years, 179 days). Interment at Lath Branch Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan.
  Relatives: Son of George W. Herrell and Catherine Priscilla (Mast) Herrell; married, December 19, 1909, to Jessie A. Hayes.

  Richard Gardner Shoup (1923-1995) — also known as Richard G. Shoup — of Missoula, Missoula County, Mont. Born in Salmon, Lemhi County, Idaho, November 29, 1923. Republican. Served in the U.S. Army during World War II; served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict; laundry and dry cleaning business; mayor of Missoula, Mont., 1967-70; U.S. Representative from Montana 1st District, 1971-75; director, Union Pacific Railroad, 1975-84. Died in 1995 (age about 71 years). Burial location unknown.

Lawyer; represented Travelers' Insurance, banks, and the Union Pacific Railroad; alternate delegate to Republican National Convention from Idaho, 1956, 1960. Member, American Legion; Psi Upsilon; Phi Delta Phi; Freemasons; Rotary. Died March 2, 1990 (age 90 years, 132 days). Burial location unknown.
  Relatives: Son of Harry Taylor and Myrtle E. (Bailey) Taylor; married, September 14, 1931, to Dorice E. Neiman.
  William Porter Whitaker (1882-1957) — also known as William P. Whitaker; W. P. Whitaker — of Pocatello, Bannock County, Idaho. Born in Utah, April 2, 1882. Democrat. Locomotive engineer; mayor of Pocatello, Idaho, 1919-20; candidate for U.S. Representative from Idaho 2nd District, 1920, 1922; real estate and insurance business; florist; candidate for Governor of Idaho, 1938. Leaving the post office and getting into his car, he suffered a heart attack and died, in Pocatello, Bannock County, Idaho, January 15, 1957 (age 74 years, 288 days). Interment at Mountain View Cemetery, Pocatello, Idaho.
  Relatives: Son of Thomas William Whitaker and Hannah (Waddoups) Whitaker; married 1903 to Rose Byrnia Willey; married 1912 to Mary R. Hawkley.

Naturalized U.S. citizen; school teacher; physician; surgeon for Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad, 1910-50; mayor of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, 1911-13; served in the U.S. Army during World War I; U.S. Representative from Idaho 1st District, 1951-53. Died in Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai County, Idaho, November 2, 1954 (age 75 years, 342 days). Interment at Forest Cemetery, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 338,260 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.  
  The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
