Thurman Wesley Arnold (1891-1969) — also known as Thurman W. Arnold — of Laramie, Albany County, Wyo.; New Haven, New Haven County, Conn.; Washington, D.C.; Alexandria, Va. Born in Laramie, Albany County, Wyo., June 2, 1891. Democrat. Lawyer; served in the U.S. Army during World War I; member of Wyoming state house of representatives, 1921; mayor of Laramie, Wyo., 1923-24; dean, College of Law, West Virginia University, 1927-30; professor of law, Yale University, from 1931; Judge of U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, 1943-45; resigned 1945. Episcopalian. Member, American Bar Association; Phi Beta Kappa; Elks; Lions. Suffered a heart attack, and died two months later, in Alexandria, Va., November 7, 1969 (age 78 years, 158 days). Roberts (b. 1948) — also known as Phil Roberts — of Laramie, Albany County, Wyo. Born in a hospital at Lusk, Niobrara County, Wyo., July 8, 1948. Democrat. University professor; candidate for Governor of Wyoming, 1998; chair of Albany County Democratic Party, 1998-2004. Member, American Historical Association. Still living as of 2005.   Preston W. Slosson (1892-1984) — of Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, Mich. Born in Laramie, Albany County, Wyo., 1892. Democrat. University professor; historian; candidate for U.S. Representative from Michigan 2nd District, 1948. Died, of heart failure, in Clarion, Clarion County, Pa., May 11, 1984 (age about 91 years). Body donated to the University of Michigan medical school. Willis Van Devanter (1859-1941) — of Cheyenne, Laramie County, Wyo. Born in Marion, Grant County, Ind., April 17, 1859. Republican. Lawyer; member of Wyoming territorial legislature, 1888; justice of Wyoming territorial supreme court, 1889; member of Republican National Committee from Wyoming, 1896; delegate to Republican National Convention from Wyoming, 1896; law professor; Judge of U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit, 1903-10; Associate Justice of U.S. Supreme Court, 1910-37; took senior status 1937. Episcopalian. Member, Freemasons. Died in Washington, D.C., February 8, 1941 (age 81 years, 297 days). The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
	The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.
