Jacob Panken Jacob Panken (1879-1968) — of Manhattan, New York County, N.Y.; Brookfield, Fairfield County, Conn.; Riverdale, Bronx, Bronx County, N.Y. Born in Kiev (Kyiv), Ukraine, January 13, 1879. Socialist. Naturalized U.S. citizen; in 1899, he founded the Waistmakers Union, which later became the International Ladies Garment Workers Union; lawyer; candidate for New York state assembly, 1903 (New York County 8th District), 1904 (New York County 8th District), 1905 (New York County 8th District), 1907 (New York County 8th District), 1909 (New York County 8th District), 1915 (New York County 4th District), 1916 (New York County 4th District); candidate for New York state senate 11th District, 1908; candidate for Justice of New York Supreme Court 1st District, 1910, 1929, 1931; in 1914, he helped organize the Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America; municipal judge in New York, 1918-27; delegate to Socialist National Convention from New York, 1920; candidate for U.S. Senator from New York, 1920; candidate for mayor of New York City, N.Y., 1921; candidate for U.S. Representative from New York 14th District, 1922, 1930; candidate for judge of New York Court of Appeals, 1923; candidate for chief judge of New York Court of Appeals, 1932; candidate for Governor of New York, 1926; Judge, New York City Domestic Relations Court, 1934-55. Jewish. Died, im the Fairfield Nursing Home, Riverdale, Bronx, Bronx County, N.Y., February 4, 1968 (age 89 years, 22 days). Burial location unknown.

  Rachel Panken (1879-1980) — also known as Rachel Pallay — of Manhattan, New York County, N.Y. Born in Russia, December 25, 1879. Socialist. Candidate for New York state assembly from New York County 8th District, 1928; candidate for U.S. Representative from New York 14th District, 1934. Female. Died in New Milford, Litchfield County, Conn., December, 1980 (age about 101 years). Burial location unknown.

  Harold Ira Panken (1910-1999) — also known as Harold I. Panken — of Manhattan, New York County, N.Y. Born in Bronx, New York County (now Bronx County), N.Y., July 17, 1910. Democrat. Lawyer; member of New York state senate 21st District, 1947-52. Jewish. Member, Elks. Died in 1999 (age about 88 years). Burial location unknown.

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 338,260 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.  
  The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
