Died November 22, 1918 (age 82 years, 43 days). Interment at Evergreen Cemetery.

      Lucien Bonaparte Caswell (1827-1919) — also known as Lucien B. Caswell — of Fort Atkinson, Jefferson County, Wis. Born in Swanton, Franklin County, Vt., November 27, 1827. Republican. Lawyer; member of Wisconsin state assembly, 1863, 1872-74; delegate to Republican National Convention from Wisconsin, 1868, 1872; U.S. Representative from Wisconsin, 1875-83, 1885-91 (2nd District 1875-83, 1st District 1885-91). Died in Fort Atkinson, Jefferson County, Wis., April 26, 1919 (age 91 years, 150 days). Interment at Evergreen Cemetery.

Died in Madison, Dane County, Wis., November 20, 1946 (age 56 years, 284 days). Interment at Greenwood Cemetery.

      John Edwin Holmes (1809-1863) — also known as John E. Holmes — of Jefferson, Jefferson County, Wis. Born in Glastonbury, Hartford County, Conn., December 28, 1809. Democrat. Ordained minister; lawyer; member Wisconsin territorial council, 1847-48; Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin, 1848-50; member of Wisconsin state assembly from Jefferson County 2nd District, 1853; served in the Union Army during the Civil War. Universalist. Taken prisoner by Confederate forces in March 1863; while captive, became seriously ill from an unspecified disease; released as part of a prisoner exchange, and died three days later, in Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, Md., May 8, 1863 (age 53 years, 131 days). Interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
      Relatives: Son of Solomon Holmes and Ann (McKee) Holmes; married 1836 to Ruth A. Hawley.

Died, following a stroke of apoplexy, in Watertown, Jefferson County, Wis., June 19, 1934 (age about 67 years). Interment at Oak Hill Cemetery.

    The Political Graveyard

    The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 338,260 politicians, living and dead.
     
      The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.
