  August Belmont (1816-1890) — also known as August Schönberg — of New York, New York County, N.Y. Born in Alzei, Germany, December 2, 1816. Democrat. U.S. Charge d'Affaires to Netherlands, 1853-54; U.S. Minister to Netherlands, 1854-57; Chairman of Democratic National Committee, 1860-72; delegate to Democratic National Convention from New York, 1860, 1864, 1876; speaker, 1868. Jewish. Fought a duel with Edward Hayward, in Elkton, Md., 1840; both men were injured. Died in New York, New York County, N.Y., November 24, 1890 (age 73 years, 357 days). Interment at Island Cemetery, Newport, R.I.
  Relatives: Son of Simon Belmont; married 1849 to Caroline Slidell Perry (daughter of Matthew C. Perry; niece of John Slidell and Thomas Slidell; aunt by marriage of Joseph Clark Grew; first cousin of Matthew Calbraith Butler); father of Perry Belmont, August Belmont (1853-1924) and Oliver Hazard Perry Belmont.
  Political family: Butler-Perry-Belmont-Slidell family of Edgefield, South Carolina (subset of the Four Thousand Related Politicians).
  The town of Belmont, New Hampshire, is named for him.  — The former town of Belmont, Missouri (now largely abandoned due to flooding), was named for him.

  David N. Cicilline (b. 1961) — of Providence, Providence County, R.I. Born in Providence, Providence County, R.I., July 15, 1961. Democrat. Lawyer; member of Rhode Island state house of representatives 4th District, 1995-2002; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Rhode Island, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012; mayor of Providence, R.I., 2003-11; member of Democratic National Committee from Rhode Island, 2008. Italian and Jewish ancestry. Gay. Still living as of 2014.

  Joseph Jerome Hahn (b. 1868) — also known as J. Jerome Hahn — of Providence, Providence County, R.I. Born in Albany, Albany County, N.Y., August 20, 1868. Lawyer; superior court judge in Rhode Island, 1919-30; justice of Rhode Island state supreme court, 1930-38. Jewish. Burial location unknown.

Member of Rhode Island state house of representatives, 1941-; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Rhode Island, 1952 (alternate), 1960, 1964, 1968. Jewish. Member, Elks; Freemasons; B'nai B'rith. Burial location unknown.
  Frank Licht (1916-1987) — of Providence, Providence County, R.I. Born in Providence, Providence County, R.I., March 3, 1916. Law clerk for U.S. Court of Appeals Judge John C. Mahoney, 1942-43; lawyer; member of Rhode Island state senate, 1949-56; superior court judge in Rhode Island, 1956-68; Governor of Rhode Island, 1969-73. Jewish. Member, Freemasons; Phi Beta Kappa; Delta Sigma Rho; American Bar Association. Died in Providence, Providence County, R.I., May 30, 1987 (age 71 years, 88 days). Interment at Lincoln Park Cemetery, Warwick, R.I.
  Relatives: Son of Jacob Licht and Rose (Kassed) Licht; married, June 16, 1946, to Dorothy Shirley Krauss; uncle of Richard A. Licht.

Jewish. Member, Urban League. Still living as of 2014.

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.  
  The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
