      William Worrall Mayo (1819-1911) — of Rochester, Olmsted County, Minn. Born in Eccles, Lancashire (now Greater Manchester), England, May 31, 1819. Democrat. Physician; founder of the medical practice and hospital which became the Mayo Clinic; mayor of Rochester, Minn., 1882-83; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Minnesota, 1888 (member, Credentials Committee), 1904 (member, Committee to Notify Presidential Nominee); member of Minnesota state senate 14th District, 1891-94. Episcopalian. English ancestry. Died in Rochester, Olmsted County, Minn., March 6, 1911 (age 91 years, 279 days). Interment at Oakwood Cemetery.
      Relatives: Married 1851 to Louise Abigail Wright.

      Allen John Furlow (1890-1954) — also known as Allen J. Furlow — of Rochester, Olmsted County, Minn. Born in Rochester, Olmsted County, Minn., November 9, 1890. Republican. Served in the U.S. Army during World War I; lawyer; newspaper publisher; member of Minnesota state senate 4th District, 1923-25; U.S. Representative from Minnesota 1st District, 1925-29. Presbyterian. Member, Freemasons; Theta Delta Chi; Phi Delta Phi; American Legion. Died January 29, 1954 (age 63 years, 81 days). Interment at Oakwood Cemetery.
      Relatives: Son of Samuel C. Furlow and Lillie (Jones) Furlow; married, October 20, 1920, to Ruth Irish.

      John V. Daniels (1809-1881) — of Rochester, Olmsted County, Minn. Born in Schoharie County, N.Y., September 5, 1809. Lawyer; postmaster at Rochester, Minn., 1858-59; member of Minnesota state senate, 1862-68, 1876-77 (12th District 1862-68, 10th District 1876-77); mayor of Rochester, Minn., 1865-66; member of Minnesota state house of representatives District 10, 1875, 1881; died in office 1881. Baptist. Died September 24, 1881 (age 72 years, 19 days). Interment at Oakwood Cemetery.
      Relatives: Married to Hester Ann Wheeler; father of Milton John Daniels.

      Andrew Nelson (1837-1901) — of Rochester, Olmsted County, Minn. Born in Norway, May 18, 1837. Mayor of Rochester, Minn., 1887-89. Died in Rochester, Olmsted County, Minn., July 15, 1901 (age 64 years, 58 days). Interment at Oakwood Cemetery.

      Paul A. Grassle (1896-1979) — of Rochester, Olmsted County, Minn. Born in Rochester, Olmsted County, Minn., May 5, 1896. Hotel business; mayor of Rochester, Minn., 1939-47; candidate for Minnesota state senate 4th District, 1946. Episcopalian. Member, Kiwanis; Elks; Eagles; Rotary; Freemasons; Royal Arch Masons; Knights Templar; Shriners; Jesters. Suffered a heart attack, and died two weeks later, in Rochester Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Olmsted County, Minn., October 10, 1979 (age 83 years, 158 days). Interment at Oakwood Cemetery.
      Relatives: Son of Charles Otto Grassle and Laura (Lubitz) Grassle; married, September 19, 1917, to Evangeline Linstrom; married, February 15, 1956, to Gudrun Christenson.

    The Political Graveyard

    The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
     
      The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.  
      The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
