Lumber business; newspaper editor; member of Minnesota state house of representatives, 1913-16 (District 60 1913-14, District 49 1915-16); U.S. Representative from Minnesota 9th District, 1923-27; defeated (Farmer-Labor), 1928, 1930; member of Minnesota railroad and warehouse commission, 1933-36; died in office 1936. Norwegian ancestry. Died in St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minn., October 25, 1936 (age 66 years, 357 days). Interment at Hawley Cemetery.
      Relatives: Married to Sarah Skree; father of Knut Magnus Wefald.

      Knut Magnus Wefald (1900-1991) — also known as Magnus Wefald — of Hawley, Clay County, Minn. Born in Hawley, Clay County, Minn., April 21, 1900. Served in the U.S. Army during World War I; lawyer; member of Minnesota state senate 49th District, 1947-58. Lutheran. Norwegian ancestry. Died, in St. John's Hospital, Fargo, Cass County, N.Dak., February 9, 1991 (age 90 years, 294 days). Interment at Hawley Cemetery.
      Relatives: Son of Knud Magnus Wefald and Sarah (Skree) Wefald; married, November 22, 1924, to Verna M. Ellingson.

Died in 1930 (age about 75 years). Interment at Prairie Home Cemetery.
      Relatives: Son of Asahel M. Douglas and Alma E. (Miller) Douglas; married 1881 to Ella M. Smith.

Member of Minnesota state house of representatives District 41, 1876-77, 1879-82; member of Minnesota state senate 44th District, 1883-88; U.S. Representative from Minnesota 5th District, 1889-91. Died in Moorhead, Clay County, Minn., June 3, 1933 (age 91 years, 25 days). Interment at Prairie Home Cemetery.
      Epitaph: "Pioneer citizen of the northwest, sharing in its development and believing steadfastly in its future. Lawyer, member of the State Legislature and of Congress; Instrumental in establishing the state teachers college in Moorhead, Regent of the University of Minnesota. 'Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest; whatsoever things are just; whatsoever things are pure; whatsoever things are lovely; whatsoever things are of good report.' He thought on these things."

    The Political Graveyard

    The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
     
      The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.
