  Hans Christian Heg (1829-1863) — of Wisconsin. Born in Lierbyen, Norway, December 21, 1829. Went to California for the 1849 Gold Rush; abolitionist; Wisconsin state prison commissioner, elected 1859; colonel in the Union Army during the Civil War. Norwegian ancestry. Suffered wounds in battle, and died the next day, at Chickamauga, Walker County, Ga., September 20, 1863 (age 33 years, 273 days). Interment at Norway Lutheran Cemetery, Wind Lake, Wis.; statue at State Capitol Grounds, Madison, Wis.
  Relatives: Son of Even Heg and Sigrid (Kallerud) Heg; married to Gunhild Einong.
  Heg Memorial Park, in Wind Lake, Wisconsin, is named for him.  — The World War II Liberty ship SS Hans Heg (built 1944 at Richmond, California; scrapped 1961) was named for him.

  Christen Moeller Holst (1826-1897) — also known as Christen M. Holst — of Savannah, Chatham County, Ga. Born in Elmelunde, Denmark, September 13, 1826. Vice-Consul for Sweden & Norway in Savannah, Ga., 1865-97; Vice-Consul for Denmark in Savannah, Ga., 1865-97. Danish ancestry. Died in Savannah, Chatham County, Ga., December 25, 1897 (age 71 years, 103 days). Interment at Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, Ga.
  Relatives: Son of Peder Nicolai Holst and Anna Helene Nicolene Toender (Lund) Holst; brother of Johan Berendt Holst.

  Johan Berendt Holst (1842-1919) — also known as Johan B. Holst — of Savannah, Chatham County, Ga. Born in Elmelunde, Denmark, April 18, 1842. Vice-Consul for Denmark in Savannah, Ga., 1899-1907. Danish ancestry. Died in Buncombe County, N.C., July 28, 1919 (age 77 years, 101 days). Interment at Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, Ga.
  Relatives: Son of Peder Nicolai Holst and Anna Helene Nicolene Toender (Lund) Holst; brother of Christen Moeller Holst; married, December 29, 1909, to Mary Von Gundell.

  Eric Alexander Zelius (1859-1926) — also known as Alex E. Zelius — of Pensacola, Escambia County, Fla. Born in Norway, May 20, 1859. Ship chandler; wholesale grocer; Vice-Consul for Netherlands in Pensacola, Fla., 1896-1902. Norwegian ancestry. Member, Knights of Pythias. Died in a hospital at Macon, Bibb County, Ga., August 21, 1926 (age 67 years, 93 days). Interment at St. John's Cemetery, Pensacola, Fla.

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.  
  The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
