  John Rhoderic McPherson (1833-1897) — also known as John R. McPherson — of Jersey City, Hudson County, N.J. Born in York, Livingston County, N.Y., May 9, 1833. Democrat. Stockyard business; member of New Jersey state senate from Hudson County, 1872-74; Democratic Presidential Elector for New Jersey, 1876; U.S. Senator from New Jersey, 1877-95; delegate to Democratic National Convention from New Jersey, 1892 (member, Resolutions Committee). Died, from heart trouble, in his room at Taylor's Hotel, Jersey City, Hudson County, N.J., October 8, 1897 (age 64 years, 152 days). Interment at Oak Hill Cemetery, Washington, D.C.

  Roy R. Romer (b. 1928) — of Denver, Colo.; Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, Calif. Born in Garden City, Finney County, Kan., October 31, 1928. Democrat. Lawyer; farm implement dealer; helped develop Centennial Airport; ran a flying school; owned a ski resort; member of Colorado state house of representatives, 1959-63; member of Colorado state senate, 1963-67; candidate for U.S. Senator from Colorado, 1966; Colorado state treasurer, 1977-87; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Colorado, 1980, 1996, 2000, 2008; speaker, 1988; Governor of Colorado, 1987-99; Chairman of Democratic National Committee, 1997-99; school superintendent for Los Angeles, 2001-06; delegate to Democratic National Convention from California, 2004. Presbyterian. Still living as of 2014.

  Charles Vilas Truax (1887-1935) — also known as Charles V. Truax — of Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio; Bucyrus, Crawford County, Ohio. Born near Sycamore, Wyandot County, Ohio, February 1, 1887. Democrat. Farm implement business; editor, Swine World magazine, 1916-21; Ohio Director of Agriculture, 1923-29; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Ohio, 1924; candidate for U.S. Senator from Ohio, 1928; U.S. Representative from Ohio at-large, 1933-35; died in office 1935. Died in Washington, D.C., August 9, 1935 (age 48 years, 189 days). Interment at Pleasant View Cemetery, Sycamore, Ohio.
  Relatives: Son of John Truax and Ada Dell (Boley) Truax; married, March 20, 1913, to Helen Roberts.

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 338,260 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.  
  The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
