Lawyer; candidate for West Virginia state senate 4th District, 1938; chair of Jackson County Republican Party, 1942-50; circuit judge in West Virginia for the 5th Judicial Circuit, 1960-69; judge of West Virginia supreme court of appeals, 1972; appointed 1972. Died November 5, 1992 (age 91 years, 298 days). Interment at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Parchment Valley, W.Va.
  Relatives: Son of Flora Ella (Corbin) Kessel and Edward Dennis Kessel; married to Katharyn 'Katie' Hartman; father of Dee Caperton.

  William Gaston Caperton (b. 1940) — also known as Gaston Caperton — of West Virginia. Born in Charleston, Kanawha County, W.Va., February 21, 1940. Democrat. Insurance business; banker; Governor of West Virginia, 1989-97; delegate to Democratic National Convention from West Virginia, 1996. Member, Delta Kappa Epsilon. Still living as of 2014.
  Relatives: Married 1990 to Rachael Worby; married 2003 to Idit Harel; married 1965 to Dee Caperton.

  Dee Caperton (1943-2000) — also known as Ella Dee Kessel — of Kanawha County, W.Va. Born in Ripley, Jackson County, W.Va., February 26, 1943. As a beauty queen, she was Miss West Virginia in 1964, and was 2nd-runner-up in the Miss America competition; member of West Virginia state house of delegates from Kanawha County, 1987-88; candidate for West Virginia state treasurer, 1990. Female. Died in France, September 1, 2000 (age 57 years, 188 days). Burial location unknown.
  Relatives: Daughter of Oliver Dennis Kessel; married 1965 to William Gaston Caperton.

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.
