  Nelson Burdick (1820-1908) — of Watertown, Jefferson County, N.Y. Born in Point Peninsula, Jefferson County, N.Y., December 28, 1820. Democrat. Carriage manufacturer; mayor of Watertown, N.Y., 1882-83. Member, Freemasons. Died in Watertown, Jefferson County, N.Y., February 20, 1908 (age 87 years, 54 days). Interment at Brookside Cemetery, Watertown, N.Y.
  Relatives: Son of Adam Burdick and Elizabeth (Moore) Burdick; married, March 7, 1844, to Catherine Getman; married to Delia Getman; father of Catherine Rose Delancy Burdick (who married William Shuler Carlisle); grandfather of John Nelson Carlisle.

  William Shuler Carlisle (1843-1907) — also known as William S. Carlisle — of Watertown, Jefferson County, N.Y.; Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. Born in Lyme town, Jefferson County, N.Y., July 16, 1843. Democrat. Served in the Union Army during the Civil War; mechanic, Davis Sewing Machine Co.; Watertown fire chief, 1874-75; candidate for mayor of Watertown, N.Y., 1884. Died November 10, 1907 (age 64 years, 117 days). Interment at Brookside Cemetery, Watertown, N.Y.
  Relatives: Son of John C. Carlisle and Pamelia (Waffle) Carlisle; married, September 20, 1865, to Catherine Rose Burdick (daughter of Nelson Burdick); father of John Nelson Carlisle; grandson of William Carlisle.

  John Nelson Carlisle (1866-1931) — also known as John N. Carlisle — of Watertown, Jefferson County, N.Y. Born in Preble, Cortland County, N.Y., August 24, 1866. Democrat. Lawyer; chair of Jefferson County Democratic Party, 1891-96; secretary of New York Democratic Party, 1898-1905; delegate to Democratic National Convention from New York, 1904; member, New York Public Service Commission, 1910-12; New York State Commissioner of Highways, 1913-15. Universalist. Member, Freemasons; Knights Templar. Died July 21, 1931 (age 64 years, 331 days). Interment at Brookside Cemetery, Watertown, N.Y.
  Relatives: Son of William Shuler Carlisle and Catherine Rose Delancy (Burdick) Carlisle; married, January 17, 1894, to Carrie C. Brown; grandson of Nelson Burdick; great-grandson of William Carlisle.

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.  
  The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
