  Joseph Rogers Underwood (1791-1876) — also known as Joseph R. Underwood — of Glasgow, Barren County, Ky.; Bowling Green, Warren County, Ky. Born in Goochland County, Va., October 24, 1791. Served in the U.S. Army during the War of 1812; lawyer; member of Kentucky state house of representatives, 1816-19, 1825-26, 1861-63; Presidential Elector for Kentucky, 1824; candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky, 1828; Judge, Kentucky Court of Appeals, 1828-35; U.S. Representative from Kentucky 3rd District, 1835-43; Whig Presidential Elector for Kentucky, 1844; U.S. Senator from Kentucky, 1847-53; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Kentucky, 1864. Slaveowner. Died near Bowling Green, Warren County, Ky., August 23, 1876 (age 84 years, 304 days). Interment at Fairview Cemetery, Bowling Green, Ky.

  Warner Lewis Underwood (1808-1872) — also known as Warner L. Underwood — of Kentucky. Born in Goochland County, Va., August 7, 1808. Lawyer; member of Kentucky state house of representatives, 1848; member of Kentucky state senate, 1849-53; U.S. Representative from Kentucky 3rd District, 1855-59; U.S. Consul in Glasgow, 1862-64. Died in Bowling Green, Warren County, Ky., March 12, 1872 (age 63 years, 218 days). Interment at Fairview Cemetery, Bowling Green, Ky.
  Relatives: Son of John Underwood and Frances (Rogers) Underwood; brother of Joseph Rogers Underwood; married 1830 to Lucy Craig Henry; uncle of John Cox Underwood; granduncle of Oscar Wilder Underwood.

John C. Underwood John Cox Underwood (1840-1913) — also known as John C. Underwood — of Bowling Green, Warren County, Ky.; Covington, Kenton County, Ky. Born in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., 1840. Colonel in the Confederate Army during the Civil War; mayor of Bowling Green, Ky., 1871-72; Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky, 1875-79. Member, Odd Fellows. Died, following a stroke of paralysis, in a hospital at Manhattan, New York County, N.Y., October 25, 1913 (age about 73 years). Interment at Fairview Cemetery, Bowling Green, Ky.
  Relatives: Son of Joseph Rogers Underwood and Elizabeth Threlkeld (Cox) Underwood; married to Drucilla Duncan; nephew of Warner Lewis Underwood; uncle of Oscar Wilder Underwood; grandson of John Cox.

  Oscar Wilder Underwood (1862-1929) — also known as Oscar W. Underwood — of Birmingham, Jefferson County, Ala. Born in Louisville, Jefferson County, Ky., May 6, 1862. Democrat. Lawyer; U.S. Representative from Alabama, 1895-1915 (9th District 1895-1909, 7th District 1909-11, 9th District 1911-15); candidate for Democratic nomination for President, 1912, 1924; U.S. Senator from Alabama, 1915-27. Episcopalian. Died in Fairfax County, Va., January 25, 1929 (age 66 years, 264 days). Interment at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Ala.
  Relatives: Son of Eugene Underwood and Frederica Virginia (Smith) Underwood; married to Bertha Woodward; nephew of John Cox Underwood; grandson of Joseph Rogers Underwood; grandnephew of Warner Lewis Underwood.

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 338,260 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.
