Member of Iowa state house of representatives, 1861; member of Iowa state senate, 1864; Iowa state attorney general, 1872-77; U.S. Representative from Iowa 6th District, 1881-83; died in office 1883. Died in Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa, September 1, 1883 (age 50 years, 102 days). Interment at Forest Cemetery.

    John F. Lacey John Fletcher Lacey (1841-1913) — also known as John F. Lacey — of Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa. Born in New Martinsville, Wetzel County, Va. (now W.Va.), May 30, 1841. Republican. Served in the Union Army during the Civil War; lawyer; member of Iowa state house of representatives, 1870; U.S. Representative from Iowa 6th District, 1889-91, 1893-1907; delegate to Republican National Convention from Iowa, 1908. Died September 29, 1913 (age 72 years, 122 days). Interment at Forest Cemetery.

Member of Iowa state legislature, 1860; U.S. Representative from Iowa, 1867-71, 1873-75 (4th District 1867-71, 6th District 1873-75). Died near Reading, Berks County, Pa., September 26, 1889 (age 62 years, 77 days). Interment at Forest Cemetery.

      Samuel Allen Rice (1828-1864) — also known as Samuel A. Rice — of Mahaska County, Iowa. Born in Cattaraugus County, N.Y., January 27, 1828. Lawyer; Iowa state attorney general, 1856-61; general in the Union Army during the Civil War. Mortally wounded at Jenkins' Ferry, Ark., April 30, 1864, and died at Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa, July 6, 1864 (age 36 years, 161 days). Interment at Forest Cemetery.
      Virginia Knight Logan (d. 1940) — also known as Virginia K. Logan — of Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa. Republican. Opera singer; music teacher; alternate delegate to Republican National Convention from Iowa, 1924. Female. Died in Oskaloosa, Mahaska County, Iowa, November 27, 1940. Interment at Forest Cemetery.
      Relatives: Daughter of Oliver Hampton Knight; granddaughter of Jonathan Knight.

    The Political Graveyard

    The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
     
      The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.
