Shot and killed, by members of the Sarasota Assassination Society, in Sarasota, Manatee County (now Sarasota County), Fla., December 27, 1884 (age 53 years, 30 days). Interment at Belvidere Cemetery, Belvidere, Ill.
  Relatives: Son of Amzi Abbe and Sibbel (Bates) Abbe; married, November 27, 1857, to Charlotte Rundle Scofield; father of Nellie Louise Abbe (who married Furman Chairs Whitaker); first cousin once removed of Myron R. Abbe (who married Caroline Lucinda Spencer).

  Charlotte Rundle Abbe (1838-1909) — also known as Charlotte R. Abbe; Charlotte Rundle Scofield — of Sarasota, Manatee County (now Sarasota County), Fla. Born in Albion, Orleans County, N.Y., February 10, 1838. Postmaster at Sarasota, Fla., 1885-87. Female. Died in Sarasota, Manatee County (now Sarasota County), Fla., March 5, 1909 (age 71 years, 23 days). Interment at Pioneer Whitaker Cemetery, Sarasota, Fla.
  Relatives: Daughter of David C. Scofield and Sally (King) Scofield; married, November 27, 1857, to Charles Elliott Abbe; mother of Nellie Louise Abbe (who married Furman Chairs Whitaker).

Postmaster at Sarasota, Fla., 1891-1922. Female. Died in Sarasota, Sarasota County, Fla., November 19, 1940 (age 83 years, 332 days). Interment at Rosemary Cemetery, Sarasota, Fla.
  Relatives: Daughter of Henry H. Spencer and Isadore (Spencer) Spencer; married to Myron R. Abbe (first cousin once removed of Charles Elliott Abbe).

Born in Manatee County (part now in Sarasota County), Fla., March 4, 1856. Physician; postmaster at Sarasota, Fla., 1888-89. Died, in a hospital at Tampa, Hillsborough County, Fla., March 8, 1945 (age 89 years, 4 days). Interment at Pioneer Whitaker Cemetery, Sarasota, Fla.
  Relatives: Son of William Henry Whitaker and Mary Jane (Wyatt) Whitaker; brother of Charles Clarence Whitaker; married to Nellie Louise Abbe (daughter of Charles Elliott Abbe and Charlotte Rundle Abbe).

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 338,260 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.
