James Nelson Burnes (1827-1889) — also known as James N. Burnes — of St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Mo. Born in Marion County, Ind., August 22, 1827. Democrat. Lawyer; banker; railroad executive; Presidential Elector for Missouri, 1856; common pleas court judge in Missouri, 1868-72; U.S. Representative from Missouri 4th District, 1883-89; died in office 1889. Died in Washington, D.C., January 23, 1889 (age 61 years, 154 days). Entombed at Mt. Mora Cemetery, St. Joseph, Mo.

		Relatives: Son of James Burnes (1779-1853) and Mary (Thompson) Burnes (1787-1862); father of Daniel Dee Burnes (1851-1899).

Lawyer; U.S. Representative from Missouri 4th District, 1893-95. Died in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Mo., November 2, 1899 (age 48 years, 302 days). Entombed at Mt. Mora Cemetery, St. Joseph, Mo.

		Relatives: Son of James Nelson Burnes (1827-1889) and Mary (Skinner) Burnes (1828-1901); married, May 17, 1877, to Martha Swearingen Farrar (1855-1880; granddaughter of Luther Martin Kennett).
