Minister, First Unitarian Church of Dallas, Tex., 1908-21; First Unitarian Church of Denver, Colo., 1921-32; United Liberal Church (Unitarian-Universalist) of St. Petersburg, Fla., 1932-48; speaker, Democratic National Convention, 1928. Unitarian. Scottish ancestry. Member, Optimist Club. He and his wife were killed when their car was hit by a train, the southbound Silver Meteor of the Seaboard Air Line Railroad, at a grade crossing near Frostproof, Polk County, Fla., March 12, 1948 (age about 75 years). President, Pepsin Syrup Company (patent medicine); vice-president, Moore State Bank; mayor of Monticello, Ill., 1901-03; University of Illinois trustee; elected 1908; U.S. Representative from Illinois 19th District, 1921-25; delegate to Republican National Convention from Illinois, 1924, 1932; member of Republican National Committee from Illinois, 1925. Universalist. Member, Freemasons; Knights of Pythias; Elks. Died in San Antonio, Bexar County, Tex., August 15, 1945 (age 75 years, 319 days). Interment at Monticello Cemetery, Monticello, Ill.   Relatives: Son of Henry Van Rensallaer Moore and Alzina W. Served in the U.S. Army during World War I; lawyer; candidate for Oklahoma state senate 2nd District, 1924; alternate delegate to Republican National Convention from Texas, 1932; U.S. Representative from New York 16th District, 1941-43; defeated, 1942; served in the U.S. Army during World War II; U.S. Ambassador to Dominican Republic, 1953-57. Unitarian. Died in New York, New York County, N.Y., August 16, 1986 (age 88 years, 32 days). The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
	The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.
