Carriage builder; book and stationery business; mayor of Burlington, Iowa, 1845-46, 1856-57; member of Iowa state house of representatives, 1848-50, 1854-56. Member, Freemasons. Died in Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa, March 20, 1868 (age 55 years, 15 days). Interment at Aspen Grove Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa.   Relatives: Son of Hansen Corse and Gertrude (Lockwood) Corse; married to Sarah Murray; father of John Murray Corse.   Political family: Appleton family of New Hampshire (subset of the Four Thousand Related Politicians).   Corse Elementary School, in Burlington, Iowa, is named partly for him.   See also Find-A-Grave memorial   William Gilpin (1813-1894) — of Colorado. Born in New Castle County, Del., October 4, 1813. Lawyer; newspaper editor; explorer; major in the U.S. Army during the Mexican War; Governor of Colorado Territory, 1861-62; candidate for Delegate to U.S. Congress from Colorado Territory, 1862. Run over by a horse and buggy, and later died as a result, in Denver, Colo., January 20, 1894 (age 80 years, 108 days). Interment at Mt. 	The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.
