School teacher; newspaper reporter; Wisconsin Republican state chair, 1859-69, 1877-79; delegate to Republican National Convention from Wisconsin, 1868; U.S. Minister to Switzerland, 1869-76; U.S. Charge d'Affaires to Switzerland, 1876. Died in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wis., October 19, 1896 (age 67 years, 61 days). Interment at Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison, Wis.
  Relatives: Son of Alvah Rublee (1802-1844) and Martha (Kent) Rublee (1804-1886); married 1857 to Katherine 'Kate' Hopkins (1833-1921); father of William Alvah Rublee and George Rublee (1868-1957); nephew of William Seymour Rublee.

Died, from peritonitis, in Hong Kong, April 15, 1910 (age 49 years, 30 days). Interment at Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison, Wis.
