Newspaper editor; member of Connecticut state senate 12th District, 1861-62; delegate to Republican National Convention from Connecticut, 1868 (member, Committee on Permanent Organization), 1880 (alternate); U.S. Consul in Naples, 1897-1907. Died in Flushing, Queens, Queens County, N.Y., December 29, 1910 (age about 85 years). Burial location unknown.

Homer Morrison Byington (1879-1966) — also known as Homer M. Byington — of Norwalk, Fairfield County, Conn. Born in Washington, D.C., September 19, 1879. U.S. Vice & Deputy Consul in Naples, 1900-08; U.S. Vice Consul in Rome, 1908-09; U.S. Consul in Bristol, 1909-13; Leeds, 1913-17; Hull, 1917-19; Palermo, 1919-20; Naples, 1920-21; U.S. Consul General in Naples, 1923-29; Antwerp, as of 1935; Montreal, as of 1936-43. Episcopalian. Died, in a nursing home at Stamford, Fairfield County, Conn., July 7, 1966 (age 86 years, 291 days). Interment at Norwalk Cemetery, Norwalk, Conn.

Homer Morrison Byington Jr. (1908-1987) — also known as Homer M. Byington, Jr. — of Norwalk, Fairfield County, Conn. Born in Naples, Italy of American parents, May 31, 1908. Foreign Service officer; U.S. Consul in Naples, 1938-39; U.S. Ambassador to Malaya, 1957-61; U.S. Consul General in Naples, 1963-73. Protestant. Received the Medal of Freedom in 1946. Died, of a heart attack, aboard the Vista Fjord, a Norwegian cruise ship, in the North Atlantic Ocean, November 2, 1987 (age 79 years, 155 days). Interment at St. Georges Cemetery, St. Georges, Del.
