      William Osborne Goode (1798-1859) — also known as William O. Goode — of Boydton, Mecklenburg County, Va. Born in Inglewood, Mecklenburg County, Va., September 16, 1798. Democrat. Member of Virginia state house of delegates, 1822, 1824-32, 1839-40, 1845-46, 1852; delegate to Virginia state constitutional convention, 1829-30; U.S. Representative from Virginia 4th District, 1841-43, 1853-59; defeated, 1832; died in office 1859; delegate to Virginia state constitutional convention, 1850. Slaveowner. Died in Boydton, Mecklenburg County, Va., July 3, 1859 (age 60 years, 290 days). Interment in a private or family graveyard; cenotaph at Congressional Cemetery, Washington, D.C.

      Samuel Goode (1756-1822) — of Virginia. Born in Chesterfield County, Va., March 21, 1756. Served in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War; lawyer; member of Virginia state house of delegates, 1778-85; U.S. Representative from Virginia at-large, 1799-1801. Slaveowner. Died in Mecklenburg County, Va., November 14, 1822 (age 66 years, 238 days). Interment in a private or family graveyard.

Member of Virginia state senate, 1916-31 (25th District 1916-23, 7th District 1924-31); mayor of Chase City, Va. Died in 1938 (age about 67 years). Interment at Woodland Cemetery.
      Relatives: Brother of R. L. Jeffreys.
      R. L. Jeffreys (d. 1924) — of Clarksville, Mecklenburg County, Va.; Chase City, Mecklenburg County, Va. Democrat. Delegate to Democratic National Convention from Virginia, 1912 (alternate), 1920. Died in 1924. Interment at Woodland Cemetery.

    The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
     
      The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.  
      The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
