Member of Missouri state legislature, 1886-90; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Missouri, 1892; U.S. Representative from Missouri 14th District, 1907-09, 1911-19; defeated, 1904, 1908, 1918. Died in 1922 (age about 67 years). Interment at Odd Fellows Cemetery.

      Robert Anthony Hatcher (1819-1886) — also known as Robert A. Hatcher — of New Madrid, New Madrid County, Mo.; Charleston, Mississippi County, Mo. Born in Buckingham County, Va., February 24, 1819. Democrat. Member of Missouri state house of representatives, 1850; major in the Confederate Army during the Civil War; Representative from Missouri in the Confederate Congress, 1864-65; U.S. Representative from Missouri 4th District, 1873-79. Slaveowner. Died in Charleston, Mississippi County, Mo., December 4, 1886 (age 67 years, 283 days). Interment at Odd Fellows Cemetery.

      Thomas Joseph Brown (1873-1942) — also known as Thomas J. Brown — of Charleston, Mississippi County, Mo. Born in Hopkins County, Ky., December 15, 1873. Republican. Lawyer; candidate for Presidential Elector for Missouri; candidate for U.S. Representative from Missouri 14th District, 1914; delegate to Missouri state constitutional convention 23rd District, 1922-23; resigned 1923. Died in Charleston, Mississippi County, Mo., September 15, 1942 (age 68 years, 274 days). Interment at Odd Fellows Cemetery.
      Relatives: Son of William Bassett Brown and Sarah (Dever) Brown; married, October 4, 1899, to Mayme H. Gray.

      Lewis Danforth Joslyn (1907-1980) — also known as L. Danforth Joslyn — of Charleston, Mississippi County, Mo. Born in Charleston, Mississippi County, Mo., November 14, 1907. Democrat. Lawyer; Mississippi County Prosecuting Attorney; member of Missouri state house of representatives from Mississippi County, 1935-38; chair of Mississippi County Democratic Party, 1939; member of Missouri state senate 23rd District, 1941-48. Died August 29, 1980 (age 72 years, 289 days). Interment at Odd Fellows Cemetery.
      Relatives: Son of O. W. Joslyn; married 1937 to Margaret Gallup.

Interment at Odd Fellows Cemetery.

    The Political Graveyard

    The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
     
      The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.  
      The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
