Lawyer; Dent County Prosecuting Attorney, 1895-96; member of Missouri state house of representatives from Dent County, 1903-04, 1921-22, 1929-32; defeated, 1922, 1926, 1934, 1936; delegate to Republican National Convention from Missouri, 1908 (alternate), 1912, 1920; candidate for Missouri state senate 24th District, 1938; candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Missouri, 1940; U.S. Representative from Missouri 8th District, 1943-45; defeated, 1924 (16th District), 1944 (8th District); candidate for U.S. Senator from Missouri, 1946. Baptist. Member, Freemasons. Died in Salem, Dent County, Mo., May 11, 1956 (age 85 years, 70 days). Interment at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

      William R. Peck (1864-1955) — of Salem, Dent County, Mo. Born in Dent County, Mo., October 15, 1864. Democrat. Member of Missouri state house of representatives from Dent County, 1905-06, 1911-12, 1923-26, 1941-42; defeated, 1942. Died May 28, 1955 (age 90 years, 225 days). Interment at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Interment at Round Pond Baptist Church Cemetery.
      Presumably named for: Grover Cleveland
      Relatives: Son of John Sidney Cooley and Sarah Jane (Welch) Cooley; married to Anna Laura Heavin.

    The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
     
      The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.
