  Jesse Hiatt (1841-1925) — of Union Township, Poweshiek County, Iowa; Kimball, Brule County, S.Dak.; Oleta Township, Ellis County, Okla. Born in Fairfield Township, Highland County, Ohio, December 31, 1841. Served in the Union Army during the Civil War; farmer; carpenter; member of South Dakota state senate 14th District, 1899-1900. Died April 1, 1925 (age 83 years, 91 days). Interment at Fargo Cemetery, Fargo, Okla.
  Relatives: Son of Amos Hiatt and Lydia (Davis) Hiatt; married, October 27, 1864, to Margaret Elizabeth Whitaker; third cousin twice removed of Joseph Hurst Ball; fourth cousin once removed of Lovy Lorene Hiatt.

  Lovy Lorene Hiatt (1881-1966) — also known as Lovy L. Hiatt — of Sidney, Fremont County, Iowa. Born in Iowa, 1881. Democrat. School teacher; milliner; alternate delegate to Democratic National Convention from Iowa, 1924; Fremont County Recorder, 1927-30. Female. Died January 18, 1966 (age about 84 years). Interment at Sidney Cemetery, Sidney, Iowa.
  Relatives: Daughter of David James Hiatt and Celiccia (White) Hiatt; fourth cousin once removed of Jesse Hiatt.

  Joseph Hurst Ball (1905-1993) — also known as Joseph H. Ball — of St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minn.; Stillwater, Washington County, Minn. Born in Crookston, Polk County, Minn., November 3, 1905. Republican. Newspaper reporter; U.S. Senator from Minnesota, 1940-42, 1943-49; defeated, 1948; delegate to Republican National Convention from Minnesota, 1944. Protestant. Died of a stroke, in Chevy Chase, Montgomery County, Md., December 18, 1993 (age 88 years, 45 days). Interment at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Front Royal, Va.
  Relatives: Son of Joseph Ball and Florence E. (Hurst) Ball; married 1928 to Elizabeth Robbins; third cousin twice removed of Jesse Hiatt.

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.
