Lawyer; judge of West Virginia supreme court of appeals, 1893-1904. Presbyterian. Died September 11, 1909 (age 60 years, 146 days). Interment at Bluemont Cemetery, Grafton, W.Va.

  Herbert Warder Dent (b. 1880) — also known as Herbert W. Dent — of Grafton, Taylor County, W.Va. Born in Grafton, Taylor County, W.Va., April 16, 1880. Democrat. Lawyer; served in the U.S. Army during World War I; circuit judge in West Virginia for the 19th Judicial Circuit, 1932-44. Presbyterian. Member, Kappa Alpha Order; Delta Chi; American Legion. Burial location unknown.
  Relatives: Son of Marmaduke Herbert Dent and Mary (Warder) Dent; married, October 25, 1924, to Mary M. Welch.

  Kenneth S. Kurtz (1903-1939) — of Weston, Lewis County, W.Va. Born October 16, 1903. Republican. Lawyer; member of West Virginia state house of delegates from Lewis County, 1937-39; died in office 1939. Presbyterian. Member, Freemasons; Theta Chi; Phi Alpha Delta; Rotary. Died July 10, 1939 (age 35 years, 267 days). Interment at Masonic Cemetery, Near Weston, Lewis County, W.Va.
  Relatives: Son of Harry W. Kurtz and Blanche (Swan) Kurtz; married, August 17, 1928, to Virginia Dent Reay; father of Kenneth Reay Kurtz.

  Virginia Dent Reay Kurtz (1904-1987) — also known as Virginia Reay Kurtz; Virginia Dent Reay — of Weston, Lewis County, W.Va. Born in Morgantown, Monongalia County, W.Va., October 5, 1904. Member of West Virginia state house of delegates from Lewis County, 1939-40; appointed 1939. Female. Presbyterian. Member, Kappa Kappa Gamma. Died in 1987 (age about 82 years). Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Morgantown, W.Va.
  Relatives: Daughter of David C. Reay and Marguerite K. Reay; married, August 17, 1928, to Kenneth S. Kurtz; mother of Kenneth Reay Kurtz; descendant *** of Marmaduke Herbert Dent.

  Kenneth Reay Kurtz (b. 1929) — also known as Kenneth R. Kurtz; Ken Kurtz — of Weston, Lewis County, W.Va.; Lexington, Fayette County, Ky. Born in 1929. Democrat. Alternate delegate to Democratic National Convention from West Virginia, 1952. Still living as of 2001.

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 320,919 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of this site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, members of major federal commissions; and political appointee (pre-1969) postmasters of qualifying communities; (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions; (6) Americans who served as "honorary" consuls for other nations before 1950. Note: municipalities or communities "qualify", for Political Graveyard purposes, if they have at least half a million person-years of history, inclusive of predecessor, successor, and merged entities.
