Member of Kentucky state house of representatives, 1841-43; U.S. Representative from Kentucky 6th District, 1845-47; member of Kentucky state senate, 1855-59; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Kentucky, 1856. Died in Prestonsburg, Floyd County, Ky., December 23, 1862 (age 51 years, 73 days). Interment at May Cemetery, Prestonsburg, Ky.
  Relatives: Brother of Elbert Sevier Martin; grandfather of George Brown Martin (1876-1945).

  Elbert Sevier Martin (c.1829-1876) — of Jonesville, Lee County, Va.; Dallas, Dallas County, Tex. Born near Jonesville, Lee County, Va., about 1829. Merchant; U.S. Representative from Virginia 13th District, 1859-61; served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War; newspaper publisher. Died in Dallas, Dallas County, Tex., September 3, 1876 (age about 47 years). Burial location unknown.

  George Brown Martin (1876-1945) — of Catlettsburg, Boyd County, Ky. Born in Prestonsburg, Floyd County, Ky., August 18, 1876. Democrat. Lawyer; general counsel and director, Big Sandy and Kentucky River Railway; director, Standard Elkhorn Coal Company; director, Clay Gunnell Shoe Company; Boyd County Judge, 1904; U.S. Senator from Kentucky, 1918-19; defeated, 1932; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Kentucky, 1928. Presbyterian. Member, American Bar Association; Delta Kappa Epsilon; Freemasons; Elks. Died in 1945 (age about 68 years). Interment at Catlettsburg Cemetery, Catlettsburg, Ky.
  Relatives: Son of Alexander Lackey Martin and Nannie Frances (Brown) Martin; grandson of John Preston Martin (1811-1862).
