Colonel in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War; lawyer; Pennsylvania state attorney general, 1780-91; justice of Pennsylvania state supreme court, 1791-94; U.S. Attorney General, 1794-95; died in office 1795. Presbyterian. Died August 23, 1795. Interment at St. Mary's Churchyard. Bradford County, Pa. is named for him.
