Delegate to Republican National Convention from Texas, 1916 (alternate), 1920; postmaster at Greenville, Tex., 1922-33 (acting, 1922). Disciples of Christ. Died, following a heart attack, in a hospital at Greenville, Hunt County, Tex., May 21, 1948 (age 82 years, 33 days). Interment at Forest Park Cemetery.

Served in the U.S. Army during World War I; Foreign Service officer; U.S. Vice Consul in Havana, 1924-25; U.S. Consul in Budapest, as of 1932; U.S. Ambassador to Nicaragua, 1945-47; Paraguay, 1947-50; Venezuela, 1951-56; Turkey, 1956-60. Died January 8, 1992 (age 95 years, 311 days). Interment at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
      Relatives: Married to Wilhelmina Kuenstler.
