Member of Ohio state house of representatives, 1825; U.S. Representative from Ohio 5th District, 1833-39; served in the U.S. Army during the Mexican War. Died in the military service at Monterrey, Nuevo León, December 2, 1846. Original interment somewhere; reinterment at Georgetown Cemetery, Georgetown, Ohio; cenotaph at Congressional Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
