  Charles Clarke Chapman (1799-1869) — also known as Charles Chapman — of Hartford, Hartford County, Conn. Born in Newtown, Fairfield County, Conn., June 21, 1799. Whig. Lawyer; member of Connecticut state house of representatives from Hartford, 1840, 1847-48, 1862-64; U.S. Attorney for Connecticut, 1841-44; U.S. Representative from Connecticut 1st District, 1851-53; candidate for Governor of Connecticut, 1854. Died in Hartford, Hartford County, Conn., August 7, 1869 (age 70 years, 47 days). Interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford, Conn.
  Relatives: Son of Asa Chapman and Mary 'Polly' (Perry) Chapman (1780-1850); married, January 3, 1821, to Sarah Tomlinson (1801-1876); father of Charles R. Chapman (1827-1897).

Member of Connecticut state senate 1st District, 1857; mayor of Hartford, Conn., 1866-72; defeated, 1880, 1890; postmaster at Hartford, Conn., 1885-90. Died in 1897 (age about 70 years). Burial location unknown.
  Relatives: Son of Charles Clarke Chapman (1799-1869); grandson of Asa Chapman.
