U.S. Representative from Virginia 11th District, 1861-63; U.S. Representative from West Virginia 1st District, 1863-65; member of West Virginia state house of delegates 1st District, 1868; U.S. Minister to Costa Rica, 1868-73; justice of Wyoming territorial supreme court, 1876; state court judge in Utah, 1892. Died in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, February 12, 1901 (age 79 years, 307 days). Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Utah.

Hunter Holmes Moss, Jr. (1874-1916) — also known as Hunter H. Moss, Jr. — of Parkersburg, Wood County, W.Va. Born in Parkersburg, Wood County, W.Va., May 26, 1874. Republican. Circuit judge in West Virginia, 1904-12; U.S. Representative from West Virginia 4th District, 1913-16; died in office 1916. Member, Phi Kappa Psi. Died in 1916 (age about 42 years). Interment at Parkersburg Memorial Gardens, Parkersburg, W.Va.
