Member of Indiana state house of representatives, 1837-38; U.S. Representative from Indiana 7th District, 1840-43; candidate for Presidential Elector for Indiana, 1844; colonel in the U.S. Army during the Mexican War; delegate to Republican National Convention from Indiana, 1856 (Permanent Chair; speaker), 1868; Governor of Indiana, 1861; U.S. Senator from Indiana, 1861-67. Methodist. Died in Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Ind., June 18, 1881 (age 70 years, 114 days). Interment at Oak Hill Cemetery, Crawfordsville, Ind.

Higgins Lane (1812-1877) — of Indiana. Born in Montgomery County, Ky., July 9, 1812. Major in the U.S. Army during the Mexican War; member of Indiana state house of representatives, 1849-50, 1861, 1865. Disciples of Christ. Died in Bainbridge, Putnam County, Ind., March 4, 1877 (age 64 years, 238 days). Burial location unknown.

Edwin T. Lane (b. 1851) — of Indiana. Born in Monroe Township, Putnam County, Ind., February 7, 1851. Member of Indiana state house of representatives, 1877. Burial location unknown.
