Henry Percy Brewster (1816-1884) — of Texas. Born in Laurens District (now Laurens County), S.C., November 22, 1816. Served in the Texas Army during the Texas War of Independence; Texas Republic Secretary of War, 1836; Texas state attorney general, 1849-50; colonel in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Died November 27, 1884. Buried at sea in Gulf of Mexico. Brewster County, Tex. is named for him.
