  Albert S. Amerman (1849-1903) — of Rochford, Pennington County, S.Dak. Born in Ohio, January 7, 1849. Son of John Amerman and Emeline (Castner) Amerman. Republican. Physician; member of South Dakota state house of representatives 45th District, 1893-96. Died, from dropsy (congestive heart failure), in Rapid City, Pennington County, S.Dak., October 6, 1903 (age 54 years, 272 days). Interment at Bell Park Cemetery, Rochford, S.Dak.

  Frank Noyes Burdick (1839-1917) — also known as F. N. Burdick — of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pa.; Vermillion, Clay County, S.Dak.; East Guilford, Guilford, Windham County, Vt. Born in Guilford, Windham County, Vt., September 14, 1839. Son of Thompson Edwin Burdick (1810-1892) and Elizabeth 'Betsy' (Noyes) Burdick (1813-1901). Served in the Union Army during the Civil War; physician; newspaper editor; member Dakota territorial council, 1883-84. Member, Grand Army of the Republic. Died, from arteriosclerosis and interstitial nephritis, in Guilford, Windham County, Vt., February 22, 1917 (age 77 years, 161 days). Interment at Christ Church Cemetery, Manhasset, Long Island, N.Y.
  Relatives: Son of Thompson Edwin Burdick (1810-1892) and Elizabeth 'Betsy' (Noyes) Burdick (1813-1901); married, September 2, 1862, to Amelia Bowker; married to Nina Davis (1837-1916).

  Walter Atwood Burleigh (1820-1896) — also known as Walter A. Burleigh — of Yankton, Yankton County, Dakota Territory (now S.Dak.); Miles City, Custer County, Mont. Born in Waterville, Kennebec County, Maine, October 25, 1820. Republican. Physician; Delegate to U.S. Congress from Dakota Territory, 1865-69; defeated, 1868; member of Republican National Committee from Dakota Territory, 1870-72; member Dakota territorial council, 1877-78; President of the Dakota Territorial Council, 1877; delegate to Montana state constitutional convention, 1889; member of Montana state house of representatives, 1890; member of South Dakota state senate 3rd District, 1893-94. Died March 7, 1896 (age 75 years, 134 days). Interment at Yankton Cemetery, Yankton, S.Dak.

  Jacob George Kleinsasser (b. 1887) — also known as Jacob G. Kleinsasser — of Bowdon, Wells County, N.Dak.; Davenport, Scott County, Iowa; Tyndall, Bon Homme County, S.Dak. Born in Hutchinson County, S.Dak., April 14, 1887. Son of Joseph J. Kleinsasser (born 1863) and Susana J. (Waldner) Kleinsasser (born 1861). Democrat. Physician; member of South Dakota state house of representatives 4th District, 1933-34. Burial location unknown.

  John J. Mertens (born c.1870) — of Lebanon, Potter County, S.Dak.; Hoven, Potter County, S.Dak.; Gettysburg, Potter County, S.Dak. Born in Wisconsin, about 1870. Physician; member of South Dakota state house of representatives 40th District, 1909-12; member of South Dakota state senate 36th District, 1921-24. German ancestry. Burial location unknown.
  John Plaster Richmond (1811-1895) — also known as John P. Richmond — of Schuyler County, Ill. Born in Middletown, Frederick County, Md., August 11, 1811. Son of Francis Preston Richmond and Susanna (Stottlemeyer) Richmond. Democrat. Physician; minister; in 1840, he officiated at the first Protestant wedding in what is now the state of Washington; in 1841, he delivered the first Fourth of July oration on the Pacific coast; member of Illinois state senate, 1849-52, 1859-60; member of Illinois state house of representatives, 1855-56; Presidential Elector for Illinois, 1856; delegate to Illinois state constitutional convention Schuyler County, 1862; postmaster. Methodist. Scottish ancestry. Member, Freemasons. Died in South Dakota, August 28, 1895 (age 84 years, 17 days). Interment at Tyndall Cemetery, Tyndall, S.Dak.

  William Gardner Smith (b. 1853) — also known as William G. Smith — of Sturgis, Meade County, S.Dak. Born in Northfield, Washington County, Maine, August 16, 1853. Son of James Hancock Smith and Lucy (Gardner) Smith. School teacher; physician; South Dakota railroad commissioner, 1899-1911. Burial location unknown.

The Political Graveyard

The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 234,420 politicians, living and dead.
 
  The coverage of the site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, and members of major federal commissions; and (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions.
