Merchant; farmer; livestock dealer; member of South Carolina state house of representatives, 1941-42; member of South Carolina state senate from Lancaster County, 1947-61; delegate to Democratic National Convention from South Carolina, 1956. Died April 25, 1978. Interment at Salem Cemetery.

Died in Land's Ford, Chester County, S.C., November 5, 1820. Interment at Old Waxhaw Presbyterian Church. Davie County, N.C. is named for him.
