      Matthew Robinson Hull (c.1807-1875) — also known as Matthew R. Hull — of Fayette County, Ind. Born in Monongalia County, Va. (part now in Taylor County, W.Va.), about 1807. Son of Jacob Hull (born 1776) and Frances 'Fanny' (Robinson) Hull. Farmer; tanner; school teacher; newspaper publisher; member of Indiana state house of representatives, 1839; abolitionist. Methodist. Died in Fayette County, Ind., July 23, 1875 (age about 68 years). Original interment at in a private or family graveyard; reinterment to unknown location.
      Relatives: Married, November 29, 1832, to Sarah Ann Hanson (c.1812-c.1850).

      Caleb Blood Smith (1808-1864) — also known as Caleb B. Smith — of Connersville, Fayette County, Ind.; Indianapolis, Marion County, Ind. Born in Boston, Suffolk County, Mass., April 16, 1808. Republican. Member of Indiana state house of representatives, 1833-37, 1840-41; Speaker of the Indiana State House of Representatives, 1836; U.S. Representative from Indiana 4th District, 1843-49; delegate to Republican National Convention from Indiana, 1860; speaker, 1856; Presidential Elector for Indiana, 1856; U.S. Secretary of the Interior, 1861-62; Judge of U.S. District Court, 1863-64; died in office 1864. A large private mausoleum was built for him in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, but he was never entombed there. Died in Indianapolis, Marion County, Ind., January 7, 1864 (age 55 years, 266 days). Original interment at Greenlawn Cemetery (which no longer exists), Indianapolis, Ind.; reinterment at City Cemetery.

      Benjamin Franklin Claypool (1825-1888) — of Connersville, Fayette County, Ind. Born in Connersville, Fayette County, Ind., December 12, 1825. Son of Newton Claypool and Mary (Kerns) Claypool (1798-1866). Republican. Delegate to Republican National Convention from Indiana, 1856, 1868; member of Indiana state senate, 1861-63; served in the Union Army during the Civil War; Presidential Elector for Indiana, 1864, 1868; candidate for U.S. Representative from Indiana, 1874. Died in Connersville, Fayette County, Ind., December 11, 1888 (age 62 years, 365 days). Interment at City Cemetery.
      Presumably named for: Benjamin Franklin

      Newton Claypool (1795-1864) — of Connersville, Fayette County, Ind. Born in Randolph County, Va. (now W.Va.), May 20, 1795. Member of Indiana state house of representatives, 1825-28, 1842-43, 1844-45; member of Indiana state senate, 1828-31, 1836-37. Died in Connersville, Fayette County, Ind., May 14, 1864 (age 68 years, 360 days). Interment at City Cemetery.
      Relatives: Married to Mary Kerns (1798-1864); father of Benjamin Franklin Claypool; grandfather of Jefferson Helm Claypool. See Claypool family of Indiana.

Lawyer; mayor of Connersville, Ind., 1904-10; U.S. Representative from Indiana, 1911-17, 1933-39 (6th District 1911-17, 10th District 1933-39). Presbyterian. Member, Freemasons; Knights of Pythias; Redmen; Moose. Died in Connersville, Fayette County, Ind., May 8, 1947 (age 83 years, 291 days). Interment at Dale Cemetery.

      Raymond Smiley Springer (1882-1947) — also known as Raymond S. Springer — of Connersville, Fayette County, Ind. Born in Indiana, 1882. Republican. U.S. Representative from Indiana 10th District, 1939-47; died in office 1947. Died August 28, 1947 (age about 65 years). Interment at Dale Cemetery.

Elliott and Eliza (Nash) Elliott. Republican. Lawyer; member of Indiana state house of representatives, 1905-09; delegate to Republican National Convention from Indiana, 1916; U.S. Representative from Indiana 6th District, 1917-31; defeated, 1930. Methodist. Member, Freemasons. Died March 21, 1948 (age 74 years, 331 days). Interment at Dale Cemetery.

    The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 234,420 politicians, living and dead.
     
      The coverage of the site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, and members of major federal commissions; and (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions.
