Son of Christian Keyser Preus (1852-1921) and Louise Augusta (Hjort) Preus. Republican. Clerk to U.S. Sen. Knute Nelson, 1906-09; lawyer; Minnesota Insurance Commissioner, 1910-14; Minnesota state auditor, 1915-21; Governor of Minnesota, 1921-25; candidate for U.S. Senator from Minnesota, 1923. Died in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minn., May 24, 1961 (age 77 years, 269 days). Interment somewhere.
      Relatives: Married 1909 to Idella Louise Haugen.

U.S. Representative from North Dakota, 1911-17 (at-large 1911-13, 1st District 1913-17); died in office 1917; alternate delegate to Republican National Convention from North Dakota, 1916. Died April 10, 1917 (age 59 years, 288 days). Interment at Phelps Cemetery.

      Frederick Elliott Biermann (1884-1968) — also known as Fred Biermann — of Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Born in Rochester, Olmsted County, Minn., March 20, 1884. Son of E. E. Biermann and Martha Biermann. Democrat. Served in the U.S. Army during World War I; newspaper editor and publisher; postmaster; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Iowa, 1928, 1940; U.S. Representative from Iowa 4th District, 1933-39; defeated, 1938. Agnostic. Member, Freemasons; Elks; American Legion; Veterans of Foreign Wars. Died in La Crosse, La Crosse County, Wis., July 1, 1968 (age 84 years, 103 days); body donated to Iowa Medical School. Interment at Phelps Cemetery.
      Relatives: Married, January 25, 1930, to Adel Rygg.

      Theodore Weld Burdick (1836-1898) — of Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Born in Evansburg (now Conneaut Lake), Crawford County, Pa., October 7, 1836. Republican. Served in the Union Army during the Civil War; banker; U.S. Representative from Iowa 3rd District, 1877-79; member of Iowa state senate, 1886-87. Died in Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa, July 16, 1898 (age 61 years, 282 days). Interment at Phelps Cemetery.

    The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 234,420 politicians, living and dead.
     
      The coverage of the site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, and members of major federal commissions; and (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions.  
      The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
