Son of Boh Jacobsen and Magdelena (Tadsen) Jacobsen. Democrat. Merchant; postmaster; U.S. Representative from Iowa 2nd District, 1931-36; died in office 1936. Lutheran. Member, Freemasons; Odd Fellows; Elks; Eagles. Died in Rochester, Olmsted County, Minn., June 30, 1936 (age 74 years, 96 days). Interment at Springdale Cemetery.
      Relatives: Son of Boh Jacobsen and Magdelena (Tadsen) Jacobsen; married, May 28, 1885, to Lena Trager; father of William Sebastian Jacobsen.

      William Sebastian Jacobsen (1887-1955) — also known as William S. Jacobsen — of Clinton, Clinton County, Iowa. Born in Clinton, Clinton County, Iowa, January 15, 1887. Son of Bernhard Martin Jacobsen. Democrat. U.S. Representative from Iowa 2nd District, 1937-43; defeated, 1942; delegate to Democratic National Convention from Iowa, 1940 (alternate), 1944. Died April 10, 1955 (age 68 years, 85 days). Interment at Springdale Cemetery.

      Walter Ingalls Hayes (1841-1901) — also known as Walter I. Hayes — of Clinton, Clinton County, Iowa. Born in Marshall, Calhoun County, Mich., December 9, 1841. Democrat. District judge in Iowa 7th District, 1875-86; U.S. Representative from Iowa 2nd District, 1887-95; candidate for U.S. Representative from Indiana, 1894; member of Iowa state house of representatives, 1897-98. Died in Marshall, Calhoun County, Mich., March 14, 1901 (age 59 years, 95 days). Interment at Springdale Cemetery.

      George Martin Curtis (1844-1921) — also known as George M. Curtis — of Clinton, Clinton County, Iowa. Born near Oxford, Chenango County, N.Y., April 1, 1844. Republican. Member of Iowa state legislature; U.S. Representative from Iowa 2nd District, 1895-99; delegate to Republican National Convention from Iowa, 1896 (alternate), 1904, 1916. Died in Clinton, Clinton County, Iowa, February 9, 1921 (age 76 years, 314 days). Interment at Springdale Cemetery.

    The Political Graveyard

    The Political Graveyard is a web site about U.S. political history and cemeteries. Founded in 1996, it is the Internet's most comprehensive free source for American political biography, listing 234,420 politicians, living and dead.
     
      The coverage of the site includes (1) the President, Vice President, members of Congress, elected state and territorial officeholders in all fifty states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories; and the chief elected official, typically the mayor, of qualifying municipalities; (2) candidates at election, including primaries, for any of the above; (3) all federal judges and all state appellate judges; (4) certain federal officials, including the federal cabinet, diplomatic chiefs of mission, consuls, U.S. district attorneys, collectors of customs and internal revenue, and members of major federal commissions; and (5) state and national political party officials, including delegates, alternate delegates, and other participants in national party nominating conventions.  
      The listings are incomplete; development of the database is a continually ongoing project.
