Gideon Granger (1767-1822) of Suffield, Hartford County, Conn.; Canandaigua, Ontario County, N.Y. Father of Francis Granger. Born in Suffield, Hartford County, Conn., July 19, 1767. Lawyer; member of Connecticut state house of representatives, 1792-1801; U.S. Postmaster General, 1801-14; member of New York state senate Western District, 1819-21. Died in Canandaigua, Ontario County, N.Y., December 31, 1822. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua, N.Y.
Amos Phelps Granger (1789-1866) of Syracuse, Onondaga County, N.Y. Cousin of Francis Granger. Born in Suffield, Hartford County, Conn., June 3, 1789. Whig. Served in the U.S. Army during the War of 1812; delegate to Whig National Convention from New York, 1852; U.S. Representative from New York 24th District, 1855-59. Died in Syracuse, Onondaga County, N.Y., August 20, 1866. Interment at Oakwood Cemetery, Syracuse, N.Y. See also: congressional biography.
Francis Granger (1792-1868) Son of Gideon Granger; cousin of Amos Phelps Granger. Born in Suffield, Hartford County, Conn., December 1, 1792. Whig. Lawyer; member of New York state assembly, 1826-28, 1830-32; candidate for Lieutenant Governor of New York, 1828; candidate for Governor of New York, 1830, 1832; U.S. Representative from New York 26th District, 1835-37, 1839-41, 1841-43; candidate for Vice President of the United States, 1836; U.S. Postmaster General, 1841. Died in Canandaigua, Ontario County, N.Y., August 31, 1868. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Canandaigua, N.Y. See also: congressional biography.
