Marcus D. Bearden (1830-1885) — of Knoxville, Knox County, Tenn. Born in 1830. Cousin of Elizabeth Trigg Bearden (who married Louis Alexander Gratz). Sheriff; served in the Union Army during the Civil War; mayor of Knoxville, Tenn., 1868-69. Died in 1885. Interment at Old Gray Cemetery, Knoxville, Tenn.
Louis Alexander Gratz — also known as Louis A. Gratz — of North Knoxville (now part of Knoxville), Knox County, Tenn. Married to Elizabeth Trigg Bearden (cousin of Marcus D. Bearden); father-in-law of Horace Atlee Mann. Served in the Union Army during the Civil War; mayor of North Knoxville, Tenn., 1889. Interment at Old Gray Cemetery, Knoxville, Tenn.
Horace Atlee Mann (1866-1934) — also known as Horace A. Mann; "Mystery Mann" — of Greeneville, Greene County, Tenn.; Knoxville, Knox County, Tenn. Born in McMinn County, Tenn., February 26, 1866. Son-in-law of Louis Alexander Gratz; grandfather of John Kimbrell Mann. Lawyer; road contractor; member of Tennessee state senate, 1897-1901. Methodist; later Catholic. English ancestry. Member, Elks. Southern campaign manager for Herbert Hoover in 1928, but split with Hoover after he was elected President. Died in Nashville, Davidson County, Tenn., March 15, 1934. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery, Knoxville, Tenn.
John Kimbrell Mann — of Tennessee. Grandson of Horace Atlee Mann. Member of Tennessee state house of representatives, 1972-74. Still living as of 1974.
