John Welch (1805-1891) — of Ohio. Born in Ohio, 1805. Grandfather-in-law of Emmett Tompkins. Member of Ohio state legislature; U.S. Representative from Ohio 12th District, 1851-53; justice of Ohio state supreme court, 1865-78. Died in 1891. Interment at West Union Street Cemetery, Athens, Ohio.

Cydnor Bailey Tompkins (1810-1862) — of Ohio. Born in Ohio, 1810. Father of Emmett Tompkins. Republican. U.S. Representative from Ohio 16th District, 1857-61. Died in 1862. Interment at McConnelsville Cemetery, McConnelsville, Ohio.

Emmett Tompkins (1853-1917) — of Athens, Athens County, Ohio; Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio. Born in McConnelsville, Morgan County, Ohio, September 1, 1853. Grandson-in-law of John Welch; son of Cydnor Bailey Tompkins. Republican. Lawyer; mayor of Athens, Ohio, 1878-79; resigned 1879; member of Ohio state legislature, 1886; U.S. Representative from Ohio 12th District, 1901-03. Died in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, December 18, 1917. Cremated.
