Elisha Gale English (c.1797-1874) — of Indiana. Born in Kentucky. Father of William Hayden English; grandfather of William Eastin English. Member of Indiana state house of representatives, 1832-34, 1839-40, 1842-43; member of Indiana state senate, 1845-51, 1865-67. Member, Freemasons. Died in Indianapolis, Marion County, Ind., November 14, 1874. Interment at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Ind.
William Hayden English (1822-1896) — also known as William H. English — of Lexington, Scott County, Ind. Born in Lexington, Scott County, Ind., August 27, 1822. Son of Elisha Gale English; father of William Eastin English. Democrat. Member of Indiana state house of representatives, 1851-52; Speaker of the Indiana State House of Representatives, 1851-52; U.S. Representative from Indiana 2nd District, 1853-61; candidate for Vice President of the United States, 1880. Member, Freemasons; Society of Colonial Wars. Died in Indianapolis, Marion County, Ind., February 7, 1896. Interment at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Ind.

William Eastin English (1850-1926) — also known as William E. English — of Indiana. Born in Lexington, Scott County, Ind., November 3, 1850. Grandson of Elisha Gale English; son of William Hayden English. Member of Indiana state house of representatives, 1879; U.S. Representative from Indiana 7th District, 1883-85; served in the U.S. Army during the Spanish-American War; delegate to Republican National Convention from Indiana, 1912; member of Indiana state senate, 1917-25. Member, Freemasons; Elks. Died in Indianapolis, Marion County, Ind., April 29, 1926. Interment at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Ind.
